Hepatitis B Surface Antigen (HBsAg) Test:

A blood test called hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) is used to see if someone has the hepatitis B virus. If it is discovered, together with specific antibodies, it indicates that the person has hepatitis B. If you have HBsAg in your blood, it signifies you are infected with the virus and can spread it to others through your blood or bodily fluids.

Hepatitis B:

The hepatitis B virus causes a dangerous liver infection known as hepatitis B. (HBV). Hepatitis B infection can develop chronic in certain patients, meaning it lasts longer than six months. Chronic hepatitis B increases your chances of getting liver failure, cancer, or cirrhosis, a condition in which the liver scars permanently.

Even though their signs and symptoms are severe, most adults infected with hepatitis B recover completely. Chronic hepatitis B infection is more common in infants and children.

Hepatitis B Symptoms:

Hepatitis B signs and symptoms, which range from mild to severe, usually develop one to four months after infection. They may include the following: Abdominal pain

  • Dark urine
  • Fever
  • Joint pain
  • Loss of appetite
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Weakness and fatigue
  • Yellowing of your skin

Screening Tests for Hepatitis B:

For a variety of reasons, your blood may be tested for HBV. 5 HBsAg, antibody to HBsAg, and antibody to hepatitis B core antigen are the three tests. This lets your doctor know if you could benefit from immunisation or if you have hepatitis B, whether it’s active or chronic.
