PFT measures the function of lung capacity, lung and chest wall mechanics to determine whether or not the patient has a lung problem. PFT is used for screening the presence of obstruction and restrictive diseases. PFT also evaluates the patient prior to surgery especially for patients who are older than 60 years of age, known to have a history of smoking, coughing or wheezing.
