How to Prepare for Your Mammogram
A few simple steps can help ensure your appointment goes smoothly and the images are as clear as possible.
- Schedule Smartly: If you experience breast tenderness, schedule your exam for the week *after* your menstrual period, when breasts are typically less sensitive.
- No Deodorant or Lotions: Do not wear deodorant, antiperspirant, perfume, lotion, or powder on your underarms or breasts on the day of the exam. Particles in these products can appear on the X-ray.
- Dress Comfortably: Wear a two-piece outfit (like a top and pants/skirt) so you only need to undress from the waist up.
- Bring Prior Images: If you have had mammograms at another facility, please bring the films or reports with you for comparison.
- Inform Our Staff: Please let our technician know if you are or might be pregnant, are breastfeeding, or if you have breast implants.
